So many things to do here during the summer holidays!

Astronomical darkness returns in August, bringing warmer nights and some truly amazing sights from Kielder Observatory. They have loads of kids’ events too - check out their website to book tickets and more.

 

There’s loads of activities around Kielder Waterside including paddle boarding, segueing, tomahawk throwing, mini golf, archery along with a swimming pool and a gym. Most activities need to be booked in advance here - don’t miss out!

 

Kielder Yacht Club’s annual regatta is Friday-Sunday 22-24 August. Lots of fun stuff including an in the water event on Saturday, supporting the RNLI’s Float to Live campaign. Contact the club for more info and to go to their BBQ and cruise.

 

There’s still time to join one of our Osprey Cruises or learn more at Osprey Watch at Tower Knowe - come and spot one of our six fledglings!

 

Wild Intrigue run the cruises and also have some new events including bat watching - have a look here.

 

Kielder Bike Hire’s Friday rides are on throughout August, along with several coaching sessions.

 

Kielder Birds of Prey Centre, home of more than 60 birds including owls, hawks, eagles, falcons and vultures is open daily. There are flying demonstrations at 1.30 and 3pm and you can pay at the gate, without having to book. They also offer training course and experiences.

 

And two nearby summer shows:

 

Bellingham Show & Country Festival returns on August 30th. A great day out for all the family, there’s lots to see including inter-farm agricultural challenges, bailing demonstration and South Northumberland Pony Club games and vintage vehicles.

 

Falstone Border Shepherds’ Show, on Saturday August 23rd, showcases livestock, working animals, skills and sports associated with local agriculture and the community. There’s also kids’ activities, trade stands, competitions, food & drink and entertainment.

 

And after all that, if you fancy a sit and a snack, Tower Knowe Cafe is open and serving tasty treats with a view . . .
