We are so lucky to have these amazing, awe-inspiring dark skies above us here.
Winter is the perfect time to discover the night sky. The air is crisp, the skies are dark and clear - and it’s aurora season!
We want to share the love of our dark skies, so in February 2026 we are creating a North East Dark Skies Festival to celebrate across the whole of the region.
The festival gives us a chance to highlight the magic above us through a programme of stargazing, storytelling, night walks and bike rides, creative and educational workshops and family friendly adventures.
Kielder Observatory and Battlesteads Observatory are leading the way with full programmes of events and we have many more planned.
