Our first osprey check of 2026 has successfully fledged! Kirkharle from Nest 7, which you can see on our live webcam, took off at 18.46 on Saturday. It’s always an anxious weight for a return but parent KM18 escorted his youngster safely back at 19.01.
Let’s hope this success is followed by many others . . .
Most of the osprey chicks have now been ringed by the Team. Ringing days are always a special milestone for everyone involved. From their arrival in spring, through nesting and hatching, to watching them grow, it’s a moment we all look forward to.
This year the chicks have all been given names beginning with K, inspired by Northumberland forests, hills, hamlets and villages. So far we’ve met Knowesgate, Kyloe, Kirknewton, Kirkharle, Kevelin, Kellah, Kimmer, Keenley, Kilham, Kershope… and, of course, Kielder!
