A star gazers' heaven! The Park is lucky enough to have the darkest night skies in England, thanks to minimal light pollution. Spectacular views from the observatory are best in summer while winter nights are darker and better for star gazing.

Those wishing to enjoy the panoramic views from the observatory during the day (when the facility is closed) can park in the car park for Skyspace and walk up the hill (50 minutes).
It is more advisable, however, to come to an event to really benefit from the full observatory experience as the turrets and large telescopes can only be operated by fully qualified members of Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society (KOAS).
KOAS hosts around 150 events a year from open days to talks about the universe and meteor showers. Go to the events page for info. Click here to book onto an event or pop into one of the main visitor centre onsite to ask when the next event is.
