About the artist: Maurice Pyle has been a professional green woodcraftsman and tutor for more than 20 years. He is a skilled and patient teacher, inspired by Norwegian and Swedish design and techniques in spoons and bowls making. His passion, enthusiasm and authority on the subject will certainly come across on this course. Maurice runs a wide range of courses from his County Durham base (www.woodsmithexperience.co.uk).

The workshops: Maurice will run 2 courses – hand-carved wooden spoons on Saurday 28 June; and hand-carved wooden bowls on Sunday 29 June. Participants can book one or both days and depending on which workshop they attend will: learn to carve a spoon, from a split piece of green round wood; or to make a wooden bowl from locally sourced freshly felled hardwood such as sycamore, maple or alder.

Workshop fee for each day £25 (including coffee). ADVANCE BOOKING ESSENTIAL.

Participants should bring: All tools and materials will be provided but the workshops will take place outdoors (but under cover) so please wear suitable outdoor clothing; and a packed lunch (café facilities are available at Kielder Castle for those who prefer to buy their lunch).
