Start at Lewisburn car park which is signposted from the C200 opposite Matthew's Linn (it is reached via a 1km loose surfaced forest road). Head for the long and narrow footbridge that spans the burn. This is a tranquil walk along the banks of the Lewisburn as it tumbles through the
secluded Lewis Valley. The route passes a historic pack horse bridge, wild flower meadow and wetland area containing a cluster of small ponds. The trail follows mainly unsurfaced forest track interspersed with sections of stone-surfaced path. A number of small sections of steps (no handrail) are located on the trail to the north of the Lewisburn. The one major incline on the route is the ascent and descent to the lookout above Bloody Bush Road. A flight of steps with no handrail marks the climb to the top.
