This is a pleasant stroll thorough the grounds of Kielder Castle and the adjacent woodland. There are observation points offering views of wildlife feeding areas where the forest’s many birds and Britain’s native red squirrel may be seen. The first mile of the Duke’s Trail, with slight inclines and
a fine graded stone and tarmac surface, is designed for use by wheelchair users and families with buggies. The remaining two miles is on a mixture of forest road and surfaced path. One sharp descent through Ravenshill Wood renders this section of the trail unsuitable for unaccompanied wheelchair users.
