Janus Chairs - Ryder Architecture 2009

Janus Chairs are three rotating seats located on a peninsula along the Lakeside Way on the north shore of Kielder Water. Taking their inspiration from the unfolding petals of a flower, the three chairs are made using a Glulam construction technique and backed with stainless steel. Each chair is a different size and each has a roof that extends over the occupant’s head so that when the chairs are rotated towards each other they overlap to form a partial shelter. The chairs can be orientated by visitors as they wish; towards the sun, away from the wind or rain, or together as a social group. OS Map Ref.NY 665906.
Road Directions
From Newcastle or Carlisle, follow the A69 to Hexham then follow the B6320 to Bellingham (brown-signed Kielder Water & Forest) and take the C200 to Kielder Water & Forest Park.
From Jedburgh/Edinburgh take the A68 south to Otterburn, then the B6320 to Bellingham and follow the brown signs to Kielder Water & Forest Park along the C200.
Kielder Castle is situated within Kielder Village and sign-posted from the C200.
Please remember to fill up your tank before you begin your journey as there are no petrol stations in the immediate Kielder Water & Forest Park area.

Parking & Transport
- Parking (charge) - It is not necessary to purchase a car parking ticket at every visitor centre you visit. Just buy one £4 ticket at your first stop off and it is valid to use at the other visitor centres throughout the whole day. Alternatively, if you only park for one hour or less, the charge will be £1.50.
