Astro Photography

Overview

Kielder Observatory is an astronomical attraction at Kielder Water & Forest Park run by the Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society. Please visit www.kielderobservatory.org for all event bookings.

Have you ever wanted to take pictures of objects in space like the ones you see in magazines, newspapers and astronomy websites? Award winning images which regularly win incredible prizes are taken every day by British astro photographers, and their secrets can be revealed to you, in our astro photography nights.

No specialist knowledge is required, and we'll show you how to take amazing images using something as simple as your mobile phone. With our telescopes, you'll be able to take your own images of the planets, our Moon, and even deep sky objects, using our specialist cameras.

We'll show you from the basics of tripod set up and alignment through to how to capture objects billions of light years away.

From star trails to noctilucent clouds, those mystical, magical dancing waves of ice which are visible in the summer months, we'll show you everything you need to know about taking not only beautiful, but scientifically valuable images of objects in space. So easy, it's really childsplay, with images taken by people as young as 4 years old, making it in to the national magazines.

This is a great chance for budding imagers to take shots under some of the darkest skies in the whole of Europe.
