Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre

The Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre based at Leaplish Waterside Park cares for a whole host of birds including owls, falcons and vultures as well as fallow deer and wallabies.

It focuses on conservation but also aims to educate and offer a ‘hands on’ experience through daily flying demonstrations, hunting days, hawk walks, falconry courses and school visits.

Two of the largest flying birds in the world live at the Centre, a pair of Great White Pelicans called Elisabeth and Giff. Great White Pelicans have never been seen in North East England and visitors have the chance to feed the tame birds as well as learn more about the fascinating creatures.

Other new additions to the Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre family include Sima, a white tailed sea eagle (the largest eagle in England and once extinct in the country) and a Stellar's sea eagle (one of the largest eagles in the world with a wing span of upto 7ft and a first for the north of England).
