Calvert Trust Kielder provides holidays and outdoor activities for people of all ages and abilities.
Activities, which are available to day visitors and staying guests include canoeing, sit-on-top kayaking and sailing. Back on dry land visitors can try archery, fly along the zipwire, challenge friends to the 10m high King Swing or test their climbing and abseiling skills on the bespoke indoor wall, outdoor Zonk’s Mountain or at local Padda Crag. These must be pre-booked in advance by visiting or telephoning the Calvert Trust and are subject to availability.
Accommodation can be fully serviced or self catering in fully equipped 4-star Scandinavian-style lodge accommodation. There is a range of accessible facilities onsite including a hydrotherapy swimming pool and sauna, sensory room, comfortable lounges, pool table, licensed bar, TV room with wide screen and a computer area providing free internet access.
The activity centre scooped bronze for ‘Best Tourism Experience’ and silver in the ‘Access for All’ category at the 2009 North East England Tourism Awards. In 2008 it also received a gold award for ‘Best Tourism Experience’.
Calvert Trust Kielder is a registered provider of outdoor activities for people of all abilities both able bodied and those with a disability. All activities are supervised and conducted by experienced and qualified instructors.

Learn how to ‘splice the main brace’ and sail ‘close to the wind’. At the end of the day “watch the sun going over the yard arm” on northern Europe’s largest man-made lake - the perfect venue to experience this relaxing and exciting sport in our fleet of sailing dinghies.
Get close to nature canoeing in the sheltered and secluded bays of Kielder Water while learning the difference between J, C and Indian strokes.
Fly along the 45m zipwire and speed through Kielder Forest and high above Crancleugh Burn.
“Zonks Mountain” is the venue for our outdoor climbing and abseiling with our specially designed abseil routes.
Come rain or shine it is always possible to access our state of the art, indoor climbing centre. Routes are available for all abilities with a ‘climb the mountain’ and ‘plant the flag’ challenge for everyone to take part in.
Ever built a tower with two dozen milk crates and tried to reach a bell in the sky? Try this challenge with the knowledge that you are safe in the hands of our experienced staff.
“Happy Days” is the name of the easy access motor cruiser which takes guests on an enjoyable journey to discover the parts of Kielder Water that most folk can't reach!
Start with a gentle swing alongside a friend and build up to a 10 meter, 100 kph adrenaline fuelled King Swing (if you want to go that high). For the really brave, go straight to the top and shut your eyes!

Calvert Trust Kielder takes mainstream schools during January to March and also from October to December. Schools bringing children with disabilities can visit throughout the year.
Activities include: Sailing, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, (indoor and out) zip wire, abseiling, King swing, orienteering, nightwalks to name but a few, and encourage confidence, team building, self worth and independence.
