The Official Visitor Site for Kielder Water & Forest Park
![]()
Kielder Salmon Centre, open April to October, is operated by the Environment Agency. A modern visitor centre with touch screen and video displays describing the life cycle of the Atlantic Salmon, and an outdoor artwork.
Designed by artist, Joseph Hillier, a man-made stream channel for conservation breeding of rare mussels provides a visually inspiring insight into the life cycle of these animals. Freshwater pearl mussels and young salmon can be viewed as part of this sculpture.
Internally, you can enjoy a ten to twenty minute self-guided tour of the visitor centre which houses interactive displays describing the life cycle of the salmon, conservation work of the Salmon Centre and the wider work of the Environment Agency. By prior arrangement with the manager, free guided tours are available of the hatchery and rearing facilities for any school, university or special interest groups.
