What does it mean to survive – in the woods and in the world – and which is harder? Jim and Rob are brothers who grew up in a remote house on the outskirts of Kielder Forest. In September they will be returning to their roots, travelling on foot from Newcastle to Kielder on a pilgrimage of sorts, the kind where they think about the practicalities of survival in the woods, the difficulties of growing up, and of being adults in their daily lives. You are invited to join them in a campfire-side performance at the end of their journey, where they will recount their experiences getting to this point. Rob will explain some of the survival equipment he owns and the siblings will talk about their unusual upbringing and experiences as brothers and survivors. They'll play songs and offer drinks made warm on the fire for all to share. Before the performance, you can also follow the brothers' walk via an online map, passing by the house near Simonburn where they grew up. Listen in to conversations recorded on their journey before you meet them at their final resonant destination, the place where Rob would often camp wild in the forest as a child. This promises to be an unpredictable and life-affirming experience. Natural Selection is a collaboration between art project Wunderbar, performers Action Hero and musician, permaculturalist and survivalist Rob Stenhouse. Please note event details may change.
