A good family day out

A good family day out

Overview

Family friendly attractions, family friendly refreshment stops and great value accommodation make Northumberland a perfect all-round family day out or holiday. Our young visitors are warmly welcomed and richly entertained. And what’s good for the kids, is often good for the grown ups too!

2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first Harry Potter books and what better way to celebrate than a trip to Alnwick Castle which fans will recofnise as Hogwarts School of Witchraft and Wizardry in the first two Harry Potter films.

Ford & Etal is a fabulous place for familys to explore. From canoeing to horse riding, 19th century artworks to mystical standing stones and watching the milling process at the 19th century cornmill to a ride on the steam train there really is something for everyone.

Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens located just 15 minutes north of Newcastle is a great day out for all the family. The Zoo itself is home to over 200 species including Lemurs, Monkeys and Meerkats. There are some fantastic opportunities for you to get up close and personal with some of our more exotic animals including our wallaby walk through and Lorikeet feeding enclosure brand new for 2018. Try living life adventurously by taking a tree top adventure on the high ropes course, whizz through the air at over 20 miles per hour on the 120 metre zip slide – not for the faint hearted! (Open during weekends and school holidays - restrictions apply). Enjoy a coffee and snack in the Orangery Café whilst enjoying views of the formal garden and lawn. Fully refreshed, explore the woodland walk, walled gardens and surrounding farmland.

Coastal Retreats offers a handpicked collection of stylish holiday properties, from period cottages and rustic farm buildings to romantic retreats for two and large get-together pads. All offer individually-styled luxury in the prime Northumberland locations of Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell, Craster, Alnmouth and Amble. Some have exceptional views of Northumberland’s stunning coastline while others have the vantage of panoramic sky views, equally dramatic in the day and at night.
