Plashetts Incline Viewpoint
OverviewPlashetts Incline is a remnant of a former wagonway which took coal from the Plashetts Colliery to the now submerged Border Counties railway transfer station. Little remains to suggest the existence of the nearby village and colliery which at its peak in 1914, employed 126 men. The north shore Lakeside Way crosses the lower section of the incline and a short detour down the slope will bring you to the lakeshore where there are extensive views across to the south shore. From this location, the scene in the past would have looked very different with the railway coal transfer station, Plashetts brickworks and Plashetts railway station all occupying locations which are now beneath the water.
