"""I can see a billion stars...and I wonder if anyone's looking at ours."" Carl Cape 2011. Kielder Observatory has such an incredible location that a local musician has written a song, featuring Sir Patrick Moore, inspired by the dark skies (http://bit.ly/oyenKo)! It is our aim to share our incredible natural environment (local as well as the distant Universe!) with as many people as possible during our public observing sessions. In these sessions, you can turn up and use our incredible equipment under supervision - including the computer-controlled 14"" Meade telescope and the 20"" Newtonion reflector telescope - and observe for yourself some of the most incredible objects in our Universe. See the planets and the moon in unforgettable detail before we travel back in time to look at supernovae remnants, star clusters and distant galaxies, island universes that formed billions of years ago and now are so distant that their light is just getting to us. Our experts will help beginners and experienced astronomers alike to use their own or the observatory's equipment. Ask us your questions...we can help with everything including how to find your way around the night sky using the naked-eye constellations to guide you to more distant telescopic objects."
