Kielder Observatory - Planet Night

None

"A chance to see 3 major planets.
Jupiter.
Mars.
Venus.
This event will start early so that we can see all 3 Planets. Venus will be first, setting slowly in the west as it chases the setting Sun, we should be able to see Venus,s crescent phase.

Then off to the Giant Planet Jupiter, a big ball of Gas that reflects sunlight and provides us with a superb sight, we should be able to observe the planets cloud tops as they swirl around fuelled by pressure drops on Jupiter,s surface. Observe the 4 large Galilean moons; Volocanic Io, a moon that is tugged by Jupiters Gravity, which sets off volcanic activity, Europa, the Ice moon, which could benmath the surface harbor life forms that could swim in the liquid ocean benath the ice, fuelled by deep sea hydro thermal venting.

Then wait as mysterious Mars rises in the east. The red planet, thought to have once harboured life forms, with liquid water oceans and the largest volcano in the solar system (now dead)

All in all a superb night out for all the family to enjoy. We will have a short talk about the planets and then off to the telescopes, with a log burning fire and refreshments served all night"
