These cottages, in the grounds of The Old Rectory, a quarter of a mile north of the village of Wark.
Built by Greenwich Hospital at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. The coach house provided stabling and accommodation to house the coachman and horses used by Naval Chaplains.
The tranquil setting provides a fine base for walking and visiting a rich selection of places, including The Roman Wall-6 miles, Kielder Water-16 miles and with the Northumbrian National Park on the doorstep. Both the East coast and the Lake District are within easy reach-with miles of beaches stretching up to Lindisfarne and on to the Borders. The cities of Newcastle, Durham, York and Edinburgh are eminently accessible.
The conversion combines comfort with practicality without jeopardising certain original features which have been retained, so whilst you may enjoy the area you have peace and your own room to return to.
Take the A69 Hexham, then A6079 through Acomb, Wall and Chollerford. Six miles to Wark on the B6320.
